Hello, this pertains to Northern Virginia (Loudoun county). I've had to move in with my grandmother to help her due to illness, but my annual income pushes her above the exemption limit for real property tax here. The problem is, I'm not sure exactly which figures they look at -- if I put money towards retirement and take it out January 1st at a penalty would that bring down the combined total for the year? A single month of no income would be sufficient to keep the exemption. Or is there a way to move out or "move out" to not have that month of my income count? What kind of proof would I need? Maybe there is a rule I don't know about that allows me to care for a relative without having my income count against the total? I don't assume anyone would have definitive answers here, but maybe someone would know where to go for solid advice? Thanks!... Read More »
